A bit of history
The Verdão is a serious contender: champions in 1999 and back-to-back in 2020-2021, plus runners-up in 2025 to Flamengo in Lima. They play at Nubank Parque, called Allianz Parque until June 2026, backed by a fan base that demands the Copa.
Fun fact
The fans' pig was a real animal: on 2 November 1986, at the Morumbi, Cleo Sóstenes walked onto the pitch holding Chicão in front of 60,000 people, adopting as a mascot the slur rivals had thrown at them since 1968. According to the terrace leaders themselves, Chicão ended up as the year-end roast.
Why follow them
Under Abel Ferreira they are solid and ruthless. Jhon Arias, José Manuel López, and Paraguay's Ramón Sosa up top, with captain Gustavo Gómez at the back.
